The troop headed east at the weekend. With various departure times and various lengths of travel time we all ended up at Cape Henlopen near Lewes.
The primitive campground at the park is perfect for groups like us. We were joined by a Cub Scout Pack still had plenty of room for more. We were nestled in the trees and set up our tents of perfect sandy, pine-needley ground. A huge moon lit up the night sky and many of us went rain-fly-less which was awesome.
When we all got up we had various breakfasts (pancakes, bacon, eggs etc) and then got ready to head down to the beach. The guys buddied up, watered up, sunscreened up and then we giddied up to ocean. Mr. Forrer had put his paddle board and sit-upon kayak in the trailer and so we had those to play with. The water was a tad fresh but great fun. We played around all morning and then headed back to camp for lunch. The afternoon was a rinse and repeat affair with more swimming, sleeping and falling off of paddle boards!
At around 6 p.m. we headed back to camp for dinner. Dinner was prepared well and tasted great. We then had one of the most tortuous KP sessions ever and didn’t get that wrapped up until 10:02! Not exactly sure what the reason was, but lordy it was painful.
We had another lovely night sleeping out and after breakfast various members of the gang headed back to McLean and the others headed back to the beach for more sand-in-shorts fun.
All round a great trip, amazing weather and a reminder that however hard we work to get the boys in a position to lead and execute tasks, and however good they get at it towards the end of the scout year, we are still dealing with teenage boys and all that comes with that!!!
