For many years, our troop has marked Memorial Day by honoring those veterans who have gone before us.
We usually place flags at the graves of veterans at National Memorial Park. But due to a schedule change this year, we volunteered at Alexandria National Cemetery. (Thanks to Kathy Munoz for coordinating with the cemetery).
Alexandria National Cemetery was established in 1862 (two years before the much larger and more famous one in Arlington). Alexandria's cemetery is a beautiful place to stop and think about the many veterans laid to rest. The walled military portion where we placed flags was perfectly maintained--uniform head stones on a groomed, rolling lawn.
I'd like to thank all the boys who came out and represented our troop: Ben J, Braden B, Brandon C, Daniel H, Ethan B, Ian F, Ian S, Jordan C, Kael O, Kai B, Luke F, Manuel M, Mario M, Matthias Z, Nick B, Owen R, Robert C, and Tim J. We also had two siblings in attendance: Helen F and Chi Chi F(Luke's brother).
All of them (and the parents who accompanied them) took the time to put this weekend in proper perspective.
