Troop 1916 Goes

Scouting for food

for needy families

With the holiday spirit upon us, the Boy Scouts of Troop 1916 spent two Saturdays in November 2014 to serve the neediest people and families in our community by taking part in the Boy Scouts of America's annual Scouting for Food project. On November 1, the Scouts placed plastic bags that included a note about the purpose of Scouting for Food and how people in the community could participate in this important project.

The following Saturday, November 8, the Scouts returned to the homes and collected the bags, all of which were filled with healthy foods that would be donated to people and families who need access to food. Many people donated extra amounts of food with their own plastic bags for the Scouts to collect and donate.

Thanks to the generosity of people in our community, the Scouts in Troop 1916 collected more than 1,700 pounds of food! These much-needed food supplies will donated to Share of McLean, one of northern Virginia's most respected and effective non-profit organizations that serves the poor in our area with food and other basic necessities.

Scouting For Food is one way that the BSA teaches young Boy Scouts about how they can serve and contribute to their community and remember the importance of helping those most in need. The Scouts did a splendid job in this year's Scouting for Food. We genuinely appreciate the enormous generosity of those in our community who donated so many food supplies for those most in need, especially during the holiday season.

Thanks to all of our Food donors

for Making Scouting for Food Such a Great Success!
