Moving to a New Troop

My dad is a member of the United States Coast Guard. His service is something to be proud of, but it also has some downfalls. One of those downfalls is having to move every two or three years. Moving can be great because I get the chance to see new places. But it also means I have to leave friends and activities behind. Scouting is one of these activities.

I have been in scouting since kindergarten, when I joined the Cub Scouts as a Tiger Scout. Five years ago, I entered the Boy Scouts and joined Troop 24 in San Diego, California. In Troop 24, I learned the basics of Boy Scouts and eventually made it to Life Scout.

After three years, my family moved to Virginia because my dad got an amazing job on the National Security Council. That meant that I had to switch troops. Luckily, I met Matthew H. (who is the new Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 1916) on the first day of school. I was invited to check out Troop 1916. I went to meeting, decided that I liked the troop and the other scouts, and joined Troop 1916. Today, I am close to becoming an Eagle Scout with only a few merit badges and an Eagle Project to go.

Now, I have to pack up and move again. Luckily, I will be going back to San Diego where I know other scouts and the troop there. I hope to make Eagle Scout before I go back to California.

I had a great year and a half with Troop 1916, and I’m looking forward to spending the last four months with the troop.
